Strength

When Princess Diana was asked why she was seen as a threat, she replied, "I think every strong woman in history has had to walk down a similar path, and I think it’s the strength that causes the confusion and the fear. Why is she strong? Where does she get it from? Where is she taking it? Where is she going to use it?". When people see a person, who does not fit their stereotypical definition of a man or a woman, they get intimidated. The unexpected behavior feels like a threat to them. Women, even today, are told to ‘tone it down’, ‘behave like a lady’ and many more clichéd phrases that you must’ve heard in old movies. When women step up to take command of the situation or lead while strongly putting their ideas forward to the world, people call them ‘too strong’ or ‘dominating’ or something out of the ordinary. We have read about a lot of women in history who stood for what they believed in. They have had difficult paths and faced so much criticism for the bare minimum, just because they wanted their voices to be heard and their dreams to come true. I think it’s time for us to normalize women as being individualistic and strong. It’s normal to challenge misogyny and ask for what we deserve. It’s normal to stand strong in the face of hate and be unapologetically, bold. It’s normal to have a voice and opinion. It’s normal to not go by the rulebook and build your own path. You are your own person and you do not have to embody someone else to please people. Real people respond to confidence and courage, the ones who don’t, have a lot to work upon but I am sure one day we will be able to change our mentality and welcome the energy, the spirit and the power with pride. Happy Women’s Day!
